It's February,,,already... amazing! It's such a cliché but time really does fly by. The RPM Challenge us here again and this year I'm going to do something with "Chance Music."
After watching a John Cage documentary last Fall and participating "Notevember." (The 15 tracks from that are available on my Bandcamp page, as well as Soundcloud.) I have been really interested in the relationship of Chaos vs. Order and Chance vs. Fate. Like the picture on the left, which I took during the recent #PolarVortex2019, the view feels obscured.
So far, I have decided that every piece for the RPM will have some aspect of it related to a chance process. I will draw cards, roll dice, toss runes, etc. to make some of the decisions for me. I think this is will be a (mostly) instrumental project like last year's Elements. But it will have some text or lyrics as well. I just had these few lines pop into my head this morning.

Who you are and who I am

You speak
I listen
When I’m weakest
You are strong
In the night
Something’s missing
We forgot to leave room
For the dawn

This one is a meditation on how people all intersect with each other. We overlap in more ways than we clash. For example, I might love pour over coffee pots and you might also love pour over coffee pots and that's the only thing we have in common but that links us together. Then the next person does not share out affinity for pour over coffee pots but you and that person share another interest that I do not share with either of you, etc. We form chains of Venn diagrams where we overlap until we have a chain that ties together the whole planet.
More ideas to come...
