Click the image above to listen to this week's From The Vault on soundcloud. I really should record this one. I am really happy with the driving rock groove.
The lyrics were inspired by the notion of identifying with the ephermal (ego) vs the eternal (spirit).
My Selfish Life
time is our foe
battling egos
obsessive heros
scrounging for halos
a fight to lose
but o well, we choose
to give up the war
and keep our self-abuse
don’t touch my stuff
guess it’s good enough
I’d rather die than
have you read my bluff
you say nothing lasts
but I hang on to what I have
I don’t care, I mean
I know how to pack
I wish to change
but not hard enough
life won’t self-solve
with band-aids and tough love
the older I get the less I’ll give up
the longer I live my selfish life
my selfish life
the colder I get the further I go
I may reap but never will I sow
my selfish life
my selfish life
what can I say what can I say
my selfish life
come what may come what may
my selfish life
come what may...
death's battle’s not equal
we know how it goes
you give it all to fight it
and end with empty clothes
you wanna leave a mark
you wanna make a stand
but a stand takes practice
and you work best “on demand”
maybe you’ll conquer
download your soul
autonomous from nature
no destiny can control
you are what you hold
power is in your reach
you’d rather live on file
than die the life you preach
I want to start over
but it’s too late for me
I prefer finer things
and God knows they’re not free!
the older I get the less I’ll give up
the longer I live my selfish life
my selfish life
the colder I get the further I go
I may reap but never will I sow
my selfish life
the older I get the less I’ll give up
the longer I live my selfish life
my selfish life
the colder I get the further I go
I may reap but never will I sow
my selfish life
my selfish life
what can I say what can I say
my selfish life
come what may come what may
my selfish life
come what may...
the older I get the less I’ll give up
the longer I live my selfish life
my selfish life
the colder I get the further I go
I may reap but never will I sow
my selfish life
the older I get the less I’ll give up
the longer I live my selfish life
my selfish life
